Stealth Technology In An Overview
Stealth technology is the most revolutionized discovery ever made by the army. Stealth technology helps you to remain undetected under enemies electromagnetic radars. It is a fifth-generation technology. The stealth technology helped in reducing the radar detectability. Thereby making the combat more efficient.
Stealth technology definition can be given as, a technology which helps to reduce the detectability of any warships under electromagnetic radars. The working principle of the stealth technology is that it absorbs the radar waves within itself or emits the waves in different directions. This deflection in wave emission makes it difficult for the radar to detect the correct position of the aircraft.
The latest stealth technology was built by American Defence in the year 1970. The American aircraft Lockheed Martin’s F 117 is the first aircraft to have the stealth technology.
The stealth mode can be applied to an aircraft in two ways:
- By making the body of the aircraft pointed from the edges. This helps in deflecting the radar waves in a different direction. Thereby making it less detectable.
- By painting the body with radar absorbent materials. This type of paint contains dielectric composites as well as ferrites. These help in reducing the metallic property of the material. Hereby, absorbing the radar waves.
The advantage of stealth technology is that it makes the aircraft less detectable. The undetectability makes the warship more dangerous and fatal. One can easily attack the enemy base without even getting detected. This will also have less chance of getting killed or attacked.
The application of stealth technology is in the field of military only. The stealth technology aircrafts such as F 117, SU 57, F 22 Raptor are some prominent aircraft. The stealth technology ships such as US NAVY Sea Shadow, USS Zumwalt, HSwMS Visby are some prominent ships.
Stealth technology in India is under process. The DRDO chief said that they are working on a prototype which will be ready by next year. The design consideration of the prototype is to build an aircraft which has pointed edges. This will help in reducing the detectability by 70%. Rest can be covered by the radar absorbent paint used.
